Our home, built in 1991, is located 10 km south of Winnipeg on 1.75 acres of land. Originally an abandoned farmyard, our property has developed over the past 20 years into a park-like setting with hundreds of mature trees. One side is devoted to kennel runs, while the other side is grassy yard, gardens and trees.
Our kennel area is attached to the house. The kennel area is heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer to keep the dogs comfortable. Having them so close means we can hear them clearly, and know if anything has gone amiss.
All the dogs have individual
kennels where they eat and
sleep.
Both sides of our yard are
fenced for the safety and
security of both the dogs
and our grandchildren!
Our kennel name (Skyehaven) was registered in 1991 and permanently CKC registered in 1995. We began with rough Collies in 1987, co-breeding several champions under the Cameo prefix. but added Shelties in 1990. Our last Collie litter was born in 1995, after which we gradually transitioned into our second breed, the Shetland Sheepdog. There are no longer any Collies here at Skyehaven, but we do have two Powder Puff Chinese Crested dogs.To date we are the breeders/owners of more than 60 champion Collies and Shelties.
We were both teachers in our younger days. Sherrie is now retired and Cam, who became
disabled due to MS in 1987, supervises the breeding program from his wheelchair.
At
Skyehaven we try to focus on quality rather than quantity, always striving to improve
on what we have by doing careful well planned breedings. We usually have puppies
only once or twice a year.
